YIPEEE!!!

All done! Yeah! These guys are off to Schmancy in Seattle. I literally finished them up last night. More info will be come about what they'll be doing there. I've stated before that I'm not a big fan of making duplicates but I felt a great sense of accomplishment seeing these all grouped together, tagged and ready to go. I felt good. Seeing Handmade Nation yesterday got me all jazzed up too.

How cute are they all lined up like that. Of course my husband thought it looked like a mass grave of FeeJee Mermaids, with all the crossed eyes and some of the arms were crossed too. Yikes!

Close up of the tags.

A HEAP OF MERMAIDS

Yes I'm still working away on the mermaids. I can see the finish line. I officially have 11 completely finished and the rest just need to be sewn together and have a little detailing to complete.

I thought these guys looked so sad all laying around so I took a pic. I've been dragging a bit because I caught a cold 2 weeks ago that I thought turned into a sinus infection only I found out today it's just allergies. But I did have a cold thanks to my daughter. So I've planted myself in my no so attractive recliner where I've been sewing up the bodies, drinking OJ and watching TV. My husband and I just discovered the animated series Making Fiends on Nicktoons. It's by creator Amy Winfrey and it originated as a web cartoon. Check out her site here.

ASSEMBLY REQUIRED

Not exactly another exciting pic but it's all I've been working on. So I'm ready to start sewing all the pieces together. Once I have this done it'll just be a matter of sewing the top and bottom pieces together and adding any final detailing. I've got to get moving, I've only got about 2 1/2 weeks to finish these guys.

BITS AND PIECES

Well here's what I've been up to for the past week. I'm working on twenty of my FeeJee Mermaids. These will be going to Schmancy in Seattle in mid May.
I've never made this many duplicates of anything and I feel like I'm going a bit crazy. It wasn't to bad cutting out 20 faces and fins but then there are 40 arms and little ears. I thought my hands were going to fall off. My hats off to those who can do this. I find I get frustrated easily making the same thing over and over. I'm very impatient and just want to move on to the next thing. But this is a great opportunity that I couldn't pass up. I know I'll be pleased with them when I see them all finished and sitting grouped together in a box.

STUFFED FEEJEE

I made my FeeJee mermaid last night and it didn't take to long at all. To get a plushy done in an evening is not something I'm used to. It was very hard for me to not go crazy and embellish this guy. I'm pretty happy how he turned out. I was still able to pay attention to details without doing so much hand stitching. I think he still looks like I made it, he looks like my illustration and seems to have a story to tell, which I strive for. I think he'd be funny hung on a plaque like a real fish...like a real dead stuffed fish.:D He measures 14"H x 4"W.

FEEJEE IN COLOR

So I think this is what he'll look like. I just have to figure out how to do the scales with out sewing on each individual scale on.

NOT FEEJEE MERMAID AGAIN!

Yes...again! I know, I keep going coming back to this character. I can't help it. I've officially painted, sculpted, or sewn a FeeJee Mermaid 5 or 6 times in the last 10 years. It's about every other year I get drawn back to this creature. I always seem to find a little more information about him every time too. This time I found a great article at the Museum of Hoaxes website.
I chose do another FeeJee Mermaid because I've been trying to come up with a character I could do simple enough and complete in an evening. I tend to get carried away with detailing and the complexity of my plush, I love a challenge. But I've been trying to create a plushy that is simple but still looks like I created it. Plus this guy shows my sense of humor as well as interest in weird stuff. Cute and odd, the perfect combo.
