PURRFECTLY PINK KITTY

Pink kitty is finished. She measures 13"tall, head is 9 1/2"wide.

I'm getting ready to drop this off for Art Unleashed 2011. This is the art auction that benefits the Kansas City Humane Society. The event is being held Friday August 26, 7-10pm, @ Hale Arena.

Lots of great art to bid on for a good cause.

ART UNLEASHED 2010

Art Unleashed is coming up. The art auction that benefits the Humane Society for Kansas City is Friday August 27. This is my sixth year and I love doing it. This year I contributed two pieces.

Old school chairs were being offered to decorate any way you'd like. So I volunteered to take a chair. I decided I wanted it to be very simple and graphic. I spray painted the entire chair black and then just made a slip cover for the back and a cushion for the seat. I also added a tail that wraps around one of the legs.

I contemplated for awhile about adding a mouth. But in the end I decided maybe he looked best without one.

Here's the owl, I posted  a couple weeks ago, that will be auctioned off too.

If you're in the area I recommend checking this out. It's a fun evening with lots of food and fun art work.

SHHHH...I'M SLEEPING

I finished the owl I was working on and have decided to make two more. This time around I'm taking pictures as I go so I can  post my process.

I did manage to use some of the wood from the birch tree I had to cut down. Like most all of my pieces there is a dowel rod that runs through his body, through the piece of birch and into a stand.

The owl itself measures 8"x10".

I Photoshoped out the dowel rod in this pic. I think this would make a cute business card.

This owl will be auctioned off at Art Unleashed 2010.  This is a benefit I've been contributing to for 5 years now. Money raised goes to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City.

HOOT HOOT

So I've been playing around with the idea of doing some plush owls for Plush You! Seattle or Art Unleashed. I've always shyed away from doing them because they are so popular and so many people have created some awesome plush owls so I figured why bother. But after finishing the Owl & Pussy Cat wedding cake topper I thought it would be a lot of fun to make a larger owl. Last weekend my husband and I had to pull out or dying birch tree that was only about three years old. I thought it would be cool to cut it up and some how use it as a base for some owls. A great way to reuse the tree rather than throwing it away. I'm going to start working on one right now for Art Unleashed and if I'm happy with it I'll make a few more for Plush You! Seattle.

ART UNLEASHED 2009

I quickly finished this bird for Art Unleashed. This is an art auction that benefits the Humane Society for the Greater Kansas City area. I think this is my sixth year donating work. This is a great event that raises money for the Humane society and keeps it going year after year to help improve the lives of dogs and cats with their no-kill shelter. You can read more about it on their web site.
I've done these birds before and they're always a big hit. Though you can't tell in this photo, I made him bigger than the ones in the past. His head measures about 8" across and his body stands about 12 1/2" tall. He's also on a pretty tall stand. So in total, with stand, he measures 29 1/2" tall.

ART UNLEASHED

This is my fifth year donating work for Art Unleashed. Art Unleashed is a silent & live art auction benefiting the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City. It's being held at the Uptown Theatre this Friday starting at 7:00pm. I won't be able to attend this year, but it's a lot of fun. Check it out if you're in KC!

BIRDIES

Here are the birds I mentioned a while ago. I created these for Art Unleashed. It's a silent and live art auction that benefits the Humane Society of Kansas City. I've done this for five years now and it's been fun coming up with something different every year. You basically just have to stick with an animal theme for your piece. Every year I've done a cat or dog or both. This year I decided to do something different. I think these would look great on a book shelf in between books. I decided my animal heads on plaques probably wouldn't have gone over very well so I went super cute and not so twisted. The birds measure about 6"x6" and I used wooden rods for the pirch and wooden plaques for the bases.
